When we talk about science fiction and disaster films, it seems that Rolland Emmerich is second to none. This German director is known as the master of disaster. No wonder, his work will be awaited.
Still an imprint on our minds when he worked on 2012. The film that depicts how terrible the apocalypse was, became the best of its time. Thirteen years after the film, Moonfall is once again portraying the end of the world scene with even crazier reasons and thoughts.
With a much more developed CGI effect, Moonfall brings us to the problem of the moon suddenly going out of orbit. The Deadline page wrote, Roland described Moonfall as a combination of 2012 and Independence Day.

So far we have lived by knowing that the Moon has an orbit around the Earth. But what if it comes out of orbit? Yep, this question is not just a simple question, but actually several researchers have explained the consequences.
For example, Neil Comins, a physicist from the University of Maine who once explained this issue to Live Science. He explained that the moon helps change the seasons on earth by stabilizing the tilt of the earth. Therefore, a great disaster will hit the earth if there is no moon.
"The cycle of night and day will be short, humans will move to find a safe place according to the changing seasons. Large ocean waves will also sweep the land and make it into the ocean," he said.
The moon's gravity also helps the earth's rotation so that the rotation of the clock six hours per day becomes 24 hours per day as it is today.
Moonfall provides a clear visualization of all these possibilities. What's unique about this premise is the story of several main characters with all their personal problems.
The story opens with Jocinda Fowler (Halle Berry) and Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson) traveling to outer space. The two of them were having a engrossed conversation with one of their comrades, when a strange power appeared.
When Harper wakes up, he finds one of his comrades dead while Fowler is unconscious. Long story short, Harper brings Fowler back, but his testimony about the strange power that knocked them down is suspended. In fact, making his career as an astronaut stalled. Harper was fired because he was judged to have failed in the mission.
Meanwhile Fowler got an executive position at NASA. Until a few years later, NASA discovered that there was a strange movement on the moon. NASA officials were about to keep it a secret when a science geek came up with the theory that the moon was moving out of orbit.
Comedy elements that make Moonfall feel fresher and not boring
KC Housman (John Bradley) also makes people and NASA crazy. Because NASA can't help but agree with the male nerd. His crazy presentation was actually happening.
Several times KC tried to convey his theory, until he met Harper, who at that time had become a teacher whose life was completely unclear.
After being fired for his failed mission 10 years ago, Harper is disillusioned. In fact, he heroically helped Frowler return to Earth. After he was no longer an astronaut, he divorced his wife, and the police arrested his son.
Instantly things got even more dangerous. As explained above, the farther the moon moves from its orbit, the more it will affect the hours of the day. Time feels more and more limited. Worse yet, the moon is getting closer to the earth.
NASA gave up, Fowler who wanted to fight finally got the freedom to take over. He also contacted Harper and promised to free his son. Harper also wanted to come as long as he brought KC whose theory actually felt right.
The three of them set out on a mission to save the earth. The presence of KC makes the mood of the audience like a roller coaster. There is light entertainment that makes watching this complicated film a little fun.
In addition, the struggle of Harper's children and the Fowler family is also an interesting scene. Although lately there are some scenes that don't make sense, especially when they have to pass through a part of the earth that is starting to crumble.
On the plus side, maybe Emmerich is playing with his creativity. However, a cool premise, amazing effects, inspirational side story, plus a touch of fun comedy are not enough. The choice of logic must be determined carefully.
