 The Adam Project is one of the eagerly awaited 2022 films. How about not? This film features a series of famous actors who often play in American superhero films. Yep, there's Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Jenifer Garner, to Zoe Saldana.

 So, what are the other attractions? The film, which has been broadcast on Netflix since March 11, 2022, presents the topic of saving the world whose story is wrapped in the concept of time travel. Moreover, the trailer presented is quite fantastic and it's no wonder some people have high expectations. Did the story really live up to expectations?

 The Adam Project tells the story of the sci-fi adventures of an airplane pilot from the future. He travels back in time to team up with his younger self. The two try to meet their father, in order to change the future and save the world.

 The film opens in 2050, just beyond Earth's orbit. Grown-up Adam (Reynolds) is a “master pilot who plays by his own rules.” He's preparing to steal a time-traveling jet. Adam is eager to return to 2018, for several reasons.

In his escape, he was accidentally shot and landed in 2022. The mission is still the same, he must return to the past.

 Well, judging from the premise, this work by director Shawn Levy seems to be looking for a fortune through the idea of ​​1980s science fiction films in the time travel trend, for example Back To The Future (1985). Indeed, it's not the same, but it feels like the trend is becoming a cliché nowadays.

 Theory of physics and time travel is just a spice. What we watch are mostly action scenes. The thing that makes the action scenes fun is the scoring music that makes the fight scenes fun. Led Zeppelin's scoring music directed by composer Rob Simonsen reminds you of Guardians of the Galaxy or Deadpool.

 Unfortunately in the third act, the greatness of the theory of time travel appears in a hurry. Conflict resolution is also easy, even the villain loses with one unexpected scene.

Two Adams that deserve appreciation

 Fortunately, there are contemporary elements that make this film not old school, it even feels like a "popcorn movie". One of them is that every dialogue between Adam and Adam is full of dark jokes, but feels funny and relatable.

 In our opinion, the most enjoyable part is the first act, where two Adams from different time zones engage in a witty dialogue based on their similar personalities from different times. We can see the chemistry of Ryan Reynolds and Walker Scobell as the adorable duo Adam.

 Ryan Reynolds' acting here also reminds you of his role in Free Guy (2021). The figure of a man who is talkative, reckless, and realistic. His role was even more interesting when he collaborated with Walker Scobell. As child actors who made their debut through this film, we deserve appreciation.

Inherent Emotional Side

 Finally, it is not the time travel theme that is appreciated in this film, but rather the relationship between father and son. This relationship increasingly shows the emotional side in the third act to the end. It's not a good thing, but it's not a bad thing either, because it's as if the emotional scene makes us forget where science fiction really is.

 Some dialogues about the existence of time also make us realize that there are many things that we are chasing until we forget that time also runs. Especially when Adam (small and grown) misses his father. As a child, he needs validation and the presence of parents in his every development.

 Therefore, there is no need to think that The Adam Project is boring. Elements of science fiction only partially. The rest is the relationship between father and son or mother and son, which can be an afterthought. Through these factors, it is not surprising that Audience Rotten Tomatoes gave a score of 81% on this PG-13 rating film.

In general, this film is suitable to be watched with family. This fun sci-fi film from Netflix doesn't need you to think about time travel theory or about less intimidating villains.
